Why I Believe.
He will show you to believe in Him and to believe in yourself. In your capacity to do good, to grow, to learn, to do things that you may now think impossible. That you can make a difference in this world. Even if it is ever so small.⁴ But you can. Through Him.
Why I Believe
Why I believe?
Sometimes, it's hard to explain.
I have always believed in Christ. I believed the stories told about "the blind receiv[ing] their sight, and the lame walk[ing]... and the deaf hear[ing]." I believed that the dead were raised, the lepers were cleansed.¹ I've never doubted that Christ lived, that Christ died, and that Christ lived again.
Why is it hard to believe?
Since I was young I have prayed, attended church, read scripture. And these things, though small, were enough. In the rocky times of my life where I felt I couldn't believe or I did not have enough faith, all these little things stood as reminders to me–like sticky notes, stuck in the corners of mind.
But despite my faith in Christ, maybe my faith in myself hasn't always been so strong. In fact, I've often doubted myself–or my ability to overcome difficulty, to accomplish what I want to do, to be who I want to be. But I didn't realize the doubts in myself were, in a way, doubting Him, too.
Jsem si jistá, že mnozí z vás se cítili podobně; věřili v zázraky, ale stále čekali, až je uvidí na vlastní oči. Uvnitř sebe.
I'm sure many of you want this to change. I did, too.
I'm here to tell you that it can change. It will change.
"My grace is sufficient for thee"
It all happened when I started believing Christ. Why is it that we may read the words "my grace is sufficient for thee" and think that it must only apply to Paul?² Why couldn't it be true for me, too? For you? tak si myslíme, že to musí platit jen pro Pavla?² Proč by to nemohlo platit i pro mě? Pro vás?
So I decided to try believe Him. Every time I feel too imperfect:
"My grace is sufficient."
When I feel I am falling short:
"My grace is sufficient."
It's much easier to go through life knowing you have someone who will catch you when you fall, and carry you when you can't walk on your own.
Those stories? The blind seeing, lame walking, sick healed, dead raised? They are us: me and you. Sometimes we move through life without seeing our potential, sometimes we carry with us a broken relationship or a broken heart, we feel like we can't move our legs out of our beds. Our souls at times may feel sick, and sometimes they have to be raised as if from the dead.
But what Christ did then, Christ can do now. He heals us as we come to Him.
Maybe you've never believed, or haven't yet found reason to. I know though, that you can. Because "where we look for Him we will find Him—each and every day."³
As we look around within our lives and within ourselves we can see that the aches within our hearts and souls are dulling. That He fills the parts of us we didn't think could be filled. And we can see that the very Savior of the world is calling out to you to Him.¹ You just have to choose to come.
And He will show you to believe in Him and to believe in yourself. In your capacity to do good, to grow, to learn, to do things that you may now think impossible. That you can make a difference in this world. Even if it is ever so small.⁴ But you can. Through Him.
Why I believe?
There's no reason not to.
